Braces Patient Care
Eating Habits & Orthodontics

Hard food may do damage by bending wires, loosening cement
under the bands, or breaking the little brackets and tubes that are
attached to the bands or bonded directly to your teeth.

Do not eat:

1) Chewy foods: bagels, hard rolls, licorice
2) Crunchy foods: popcorn, ice, chips
3) Sticky foods and candies: caramels, gum and taffy
4) Hard foods: nuts, hard candy, hard pizza crust, hard breads
5) Foods you have to chew off like ribs or chicken wings
6) High sugar content foods and all carbonated drinks

Damaged braces will cause treatment to take longer, require
extra visits, and possibly result in additional charges.

“Emergency” Calls

When braces or appliances are broken, please don't panic. While
a loose wire or broken bracket may be very uncomfortable, it is
usually a simple fix. First try to make sure the wire or brace is not
poking your gums or inner mouth. Try to cover with the dental wax
provided first. If severe pain exists contact our office for the next
available appointment and please be sure to bring any loose
components.
